Improve how you help AFS students and families learn and connect! Part of AFS’s official worldwide intercultural learning (ICL) training program, the AFS Intercultural Link Learning Program, Level 1 will help you explore your own cultural perspectives and better understand how theory and reflection make AFS support, orientations, and school relations stronger.
This course will raise your awareness of how your background, life experiences, languages and communication preferences influence your interaction with others and the intercultural learning experiences you help facilitate as an AFS volunteer or staff member. Expanding on the essentials of What Every AFSer Should Know About Intercultural Learning™ 2.0, the course takes a deeper look at the AFS Educational Approach, concepts of culture, and models to explore cultural communication and adaptation.
During the workshop you’ll put theory into practice by taking part in a simulation activity to experience the challenges and rewards of dealing with differences, working in groups to analyze case studies, and developing constructive interventions to successfully resolve intercultural conflict scenarios.
BONUS: This year, participation in the workshop includes a post-event content questionnaire plus two official Learning Program Level 1 distance-learning sessions, to help you reflect what you’ve learned and how it is connected to your AFS role—and beyond. Successful participation in these activities also prepares you to officially enter Level 2 of the Learning Program.
